~Refinishing your Deck~

Wooden Decks look great.. But need to be maintained from time to time.

First of all you’ll need to prep your deck. There are 2 ways ..first of all, if your deck is only a year or 2 old, you will probably only need to clean your deck before you start to finish it..remember if you wash your deck down you will need to wait 2 or 3 days for it to dry before staining.

Secondly if your deck is older you may need to replace some rotten board and rail before you start. Then sand the deck and rails back to the wood..you can then stain right away.

You now need to choose the type of finish you would like.

Transparent ;- slight colour to wood allowing wood grains to show through
Semi-Transparent ;- slightly thicker product which means less grain is visable, but will protect the wood a little more.
These finishes usually require a finish clear coat to protect from U.V rays. (this clear coat can be re done in 2 or 3 years.

Semi -Solid ;-very little wood grain will show through, but you will see the texture of the wood.
Solid ;- totally covers the wood grain but you will still the wood texture.(these finishes do not require a clear coat finish as the U.V protection is built in)

Not only do these waterborne stains add life to your deck, they come into a wonderful choice of colour.
